Hooray for update.
SAT scores were available starting yesterday.
Reading: 710 Math: 680 Writing: 670 Total: 2060
I did alright, but I know I can do better than that. I'm taking a course for two months and then taking the SAT again on March 10.
Last time I updated was after the first day of school, so, for those of you I haven't been in constant contact with, school's been going really well. I have a rather difficult schedule (though not as difficult as I know some of your schedules are), but I've managed to get pretty good grades, pulling 5 A's (if you count AP Chem, a double-period, twice) and 2 B's, and currently I have A's in both classes I had B's in last quarter (Precalc w/ Anal and AP Lang), even though I, for the time being, have a B in AP World, which is insane if you don't have Williams. Non-Williams AP World is easy as hell, and if it weren't for a stupid DBQ I got a C on (it's our only essay grade thus far, a good portion of our total grade) I'd have an A. Grumble grumble.
Oh, and between when I last wrote here and now I auditioned for, got into, rehearsed endlessly for, and performed The Crucible as Reverend Parris, double-cast with Josh Rosenberg. I find it kinda funny that such a complete experience occurred between updates.
And, um...tired? Like most of you, I get far too little sleep. And I get far more too little sleep than I did last year, when I get less too little. I may have actually gotten more last year, or I may just need more this year due to the work I'm doing. Probably both.
...I don't really have much to say. |

| [ | mood |
| | tired | ] | Our tour begins tomorrow. Tomorrow night we get home around 11:00 PM, and then on Wednesday we take off and don't come back until next Friday. I think. I suck at knowing days of the week in relation to dates. But we come back very late on August 4th after our last show.
For those who I haven't ranted to, I'm in Traveling Players Ensemble, specifically the Traveling Troupe, and we're doing A Midsummer Night's Dream. We've been in rehearsal for 4 weeks, and we start performing tomorrow night. The cast is amazing and the show, while not quite ready yet, definitely will be. We've all worked really, really hard on this and I'd be very appreciative if you came to it. People whom most of you would know include Josh HW and Katie, who are Lysander and Helena, respectively. I'm both Quince and Egeus (which makes for a few really fast costume changes, but that's nothing in comparison to what some of the other double-castees have to do). So come to a show! All performances are free.
-July 25th, 7pm at Oak Crest Retirement Community, Parkville, MD (near Baltimore) -July 26th, 8pm at Skyland Amphitheater, Skyline Drive, Luray, VA -July 27th, 8pm at Skyland Amphitheater -July 29th, 6:30pm at Snowshoe Mountain, Snowshoe, WV -August 1st, 7pm in Colonial Williamsburg -August 2nd, 7pm Colonial Williamsburg -August 4th, 6:30pm in Meadowlark Gardens, Vienna, VA (in event of rain, performance is moved to the Great Falls Library, Great Falls VA)
If it's at all convenient for you, I would advise coming to the last show. But come to whichever is most convenient if you can come to any. Thanks in advance!
EDIT: As Katie said in a comment, the final performance may not be free, but even if it costs it'll be relatively cheap, at most 6$ for students and seniors and $8 for adults. |

| | tired | ] | I forget to include the dates and times for Midsummer, so here they are, lifted directly from Katie's LJ:
-July 25th, 7pm at Oak Crest Retirement Community, Parkville, MD -July 26th, 8pm at Skyland Amphitheater, Skyline Drive, Luray, VA -July 27th, 8pm at Skyland Amphitheater -July 29th, 6:30pm at Snowshoe Mountain, Snowshoe, WV -August 1st, 7pm in Colonial Williamsburg -August 2nd, 7pm Colonial Williamsburg -August 4th, TBA in Meadowlark Gardens, Vienna, VA
The only sucky thing is that we won't be performing on July 22nd, which is literally midsummer. Not that it really matters.
But come if you can to any! Katie said on her LJ not to see the first show unless it's the only one you can go to, but seeing as it's the only one in Maryland, if it's convenient for you, go for it. |

I can't sleep, so I'll update here. And I'll do so by writing a little book review.
Most of you are familiar with 8-Bit Theater. The author of that webcomic, Brian Clevinger, wrote a book about a year ago called Nuklear Age. It is essentially a parody of comic books, especially in that it's written in a heavily narrative style and is 650 pages long (and not 650 pages like "Harry Potter" 650 pages, this is with single-spacing and a normal fontsize, resulting in at least twice as many words per page as the Potter books). It's long, but it's damn, damn good. It's very enveloping and easy to read. The book is hilarious – off-the-wall, insane humor that's just hilarious. An unbelievably moronic and egomaniacal hero given incredible power. His sidekick is Atomik Lad, who, despite having been taken-in and mentored by Nuklear Man since the age of 8, is much more intellectually mature and the only thing that keeps Nuklear Man from destroying Metroville instead of saving it. And the ending even allows the book to be moving. I'll say nothing more to avoid spoiling anything.
Perhaps now I'll be able to sleep. I just finished reading it about 45 minutes ago and am very tired from my nearly four-hour binge finishing the book.
Enjoy your summer, people.
...you know, it'd be much easier to enjoy it if you had this book. And were reading it.
Just a thought. |

Haven't updated in a long while, won't bore you with explanations of why. Instead I'll get right into talking about exams.
Exams have gone in a kickass manner thus far (kickassically?). I've barely studied for any of the exams I've taken thus far (all four exams I've taken were for classes I double-Aed, so I didn't really care enough to study) and still feel like I did really well on them. As in, only a very few things were I not sure about. I've got Bio on Monday (not going to study) and Math right after that (still Monday). Math is, I'm pretty sure, the only class I didn't double-A (went BA), so I'm going to actually study for that one. Hard. To make up for all the other laziness.
Power just came back on in my house about 10 minutes ago, by the way. Very annoying. Power went out at 3:50, came back on sporadically for three seconds at a time over the next few hours, and then finally came back at 7:15. At least I was able to read quite a bit.
I hath no 1st period exam, so I needeth not attend school on Tuesday...eth (hooray for incorrectly used Old English!). That's quite cool.
I hath not much else to say, so I'm gonna go back to wasting my life on the computer now that power is back. |

No school today meant no mock trial tonight, so I don't have to worry about it for a while now (the snow date is February 23). And other than that, I spent my day playing Earthbound (I beat Chrono Trigger on Friday night, go me), watching SNL clips in YouTube (Jack Black = teh pwnzorz), practicing violin (for like half an hour >_>), and doing homework. I now intend to study for my French quiz tomorrow and then proceed to sleep. This has been Adam Ashwell, shutting up. |

No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.
1) Aluminum (Barenaked Ladies) 2) Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve) 3) Ballad of Czolgosz (Assassins, i.e. Sondheim) 4) Happy Together (The Turtles) 5) So Says I (The Shins) 6) Wonderboy (Tenacious D) 7) Alternative Girlfriend (Barenaked Ladies)
Yeah, I agree with Rachel. Too lazy to tag. I spent at least 3.5 hours studying for Algebra 2 (and I STILL don't know everything; note to self, stop cramming), and I want to sleep. So I will sleep....soon >_>. |

....*cricket, cricket*....well you're getting it anyway.
Orchestra "exam" today was long and very tiring. The English exam was kinda hard in some ways, and really easy in others. The multiple choice was really easy (always is), but the ECR was really weird (mostly because I had to completely invent a structure and, like...use hypothetical examples, not actual examples), and my BCRs weren't great cuz I was in a rush to finish at the end. Still, I'm quite sure I got at least a B on it. And considering I went AA in English, that's fine.
I also had my audition to get into the PVYO Philharmonic Orchestra tonight (I was in the Symphony first "semester", but they need more violins so they let Symphony violins audition), and I'm now a second violin in the Philharmonic. Still, I totally mutilated my audition piece. I wasn't nervous at first...but then I started going too fast and then I started messing up, and I got more and more nervous as I went, and thus messed up more and more. Mr. Quader could definitely tell that my piece wasn't fully polished, cuz he asked, "How long have you been working on that?" and gave the consolation, "Yeah, that's a really hard piece. There are a lot of different hard parts, like the harmonic section and the fast parts." He told me I was a 2nd in the Philharmonic...and then I think he could tell I was really annoyed with myself for my performance so he gave me some sightreading to do, which I did quite well. Except for a part where I had to shift quickly to first finger in third position and then first finger in fifth. Agh, that ended up out of tune. I was suspicious that it had been, and then when I learned that the audition room door had been left open and my mom could hear my entire audition (thank god I didn't know that while I was playing), and then she confirmed that that one part was out. And yes I'm rambling, and I shouldn't be bitching, cuz I got in, even if as probably last of the second violins.
So I'm looking forward to a good weekend. Sleeeeeeep, and improv class on Sunday, and, of course, I need to start studying for my Algebra 2 exam tomorrow, even though it's on Thursday. And I'm hoping to, like, see a movie or something with Lauren tomorrow. Will make proposition at group violin lesson tomorrow morning. Been about two weeks since we've hung out (and last time it was with both Josh HW and Cassie present), so yeah.
Oh, and I also auditioned for Russell Yaffe's film project on Wednesday after school. I think it went very well. I did the "if you prick us, do we not bleed?" monologue from Merchant of Venice and then did a scene from the movie's script. Dunno when I'll hear about whether or not I got in though.
Any more text, and I'll have to LJ-cut this. |

Muahahah, Winter Break is almost upon us. I am so looking forward to sleeping through it all.
Announcement: On Friday the Joshes and I having an improv performance in the chorus room at lunch. Come see it if you have the time. We're working now with differences in characters' status, and I think that could transfer quite well into the ordinary games we perform. Admission only costs YOUR SOUL! Haha. Funny thing, today my E-string has slipped dramatically three times. Like, the dead sort of slipped. And it always happens when I'm trying to tune the other strings...so now I'm scared to tune, but I'm getting to be an expert on tuning the E-string. It must be the weather's effect on my violin, so I should start using a dampet or something. Not that I ever have in the past...
I have been writing recently, even if I haven't posted anything on DA. A few weeks ago I finished something...but near the end it sort of became the first chapter of a novel, or at least the first part of a much larger story. Still debating whether or not to use it as a chapter or to convert it into a standalone short story. And I'm writing something else currently. Yeah.
So, in Mock Trial, the alternate witness and I duked it out today for the open witness spot....and Mr. Schwartz didn't wanna make a decision so now we're both doing it until, at some currently undisclosed date, Mr. Schwartz decides which of us is doing a better job. Well, at least now I do sorta have a real spot on the team. But, first of all, it's witness, not lawyer as I was originally on the team to do, and also I don't even know for sure that I'll have the spot for the trials once we get that far. Oh well. Next year at least four of our team members will be in college, so I am guaranteed a spot. A LAWYER spot, I shall insist.
And I should go sleep. |

We usually run from shortly after 11:00 (but please try and be there as soon as possible if you're attending) to the bell. Hope to see you there!
And now that the advertisement's over, let's see....Debate was relatively uneventful today. Wasn't even a Mock Trial meeting at lunch cuz Schwartz wasn't here today (and rescheduling is gonna be a pain). I also forgot my pills this morning, so I have to find out what we learned in Chemistry. It was confusing. GURPS tomorrow afterschool, that should be fun. It's been a while. |

| | Slow Hands - Interpol | ] | Surprisingly productive weekend, what with all the violin and improv and homework and writing. I forgot my after-school ADD meds today, and that usually doesn't really make that much of a difference, but I couldn't even finish my NSL reading, as it was getting very late (granted I started late and was constantly interrupted through my own free will). Speaking of AP NSL, I somehow have a 97% in that class currently. Wow. I think that's my highest grade of any class, and it's in my one AP.
Now I am, as usual, tired. I went to the dentist afterschool, and while lying in that dentist chair I nearly fell asleep several times. But it feels good to be that tired when there's justification, in a way. I just hated it when I was tired for no good reason.
Oh yes, and this goes out to everyone I talked to about improv on Wednesday:
I'm currently not sure whether or not we're performing on Wednesday. Josh R says no and Josh HW says yes, so I'll have to check tomorrow to see if they've sorted it out. They both went, I think, to the vocal workshop today afterschool for West Side, so hopefully they talked about it then. I'll post again tomorrow with the status on improv. And after I find out tomorrow, of course, I'll scream it at the top of my lungs town-crier style from the roof. Cuz that's awesome.
Now my usual sort of ending:
Must shower, read Odyssey, write a bit, and sleeeeeeeeeep. I'm really looking forward to that sleep part. |

| | Jupiter, Bringer of Jollity - Gustav Holst | ] | Whee. Procrastination!
First improv performance was today. Methinks it went pretty well, and Josh HW and I have agreed it would be good to have performances every Thursday for the next few weeks.
The orchestra also had its first performance tonight. Everything was going great, I was into the music and everything, when suddenly, I feel this jolt in my violin, like something just hit my scroll. I continue playing. As the piece goes on I move from string to string, and assure myself that the A, D, and G strings are all fine and in tune. Then I hit the E string. It has gone down, I'm sure, more than an octave. I could still play all the E string stuff by shifting up on the A, but it kinda made me stop playing musically and made me just want to get through the performance so I could figure out what the hell happened. I've now concluded that it just slipped randomly, probably due to weather. Really weird though. Still, orchestra did quite well. As usual, we play much, much better in performances than in rehearsal.
I spent a surprising amount of time practicing violin tonight. I suppose it has something to do with me being home alone until 6:00 PM tomorrow. No one to hear me play, so I have fewer inhibitions about practicing. Speaking of which, as my brother is on an overnight stay in Swarthmore, the house is mine, cuz my parents are staying in a hotel near Swarthmore. I can be as loud as I want! *blasts classical music out speakers*. Yeah, I'm not very good at rulebreaking, nor do I have much inclination towards it for its own sake.
I've recently come to realize just how diverse my interests are. It's kinda scary. I get serious kicks from acting (only improv thus far, but I hope to change that come One Act season...which is actually what would, in a normal year, be Musical Season), violining, writing, programming, mapmaking, and other things. I should probably finish my homework now...>_>
End communication. |
